Malawi Africa:
I traveled throughout Malawi, village to village, seeing many wonderful people. So many in need
for the gospel message, it has power to change lives. David Livingston, who once touched the
heart of Africa, he was a powerful missionary who gave his life to proclaim the Word of God.
I saw the remnants of his ministry as I traveled to remote villages, I saw an old dilapidated
sign hanging on one hinge, I could barely make out the name, "David Livingston." My hair stood
up, I got chills just thinking this powerful man who once walked throughout the villages
preaching the gospel. Yet, like the children of Israel in the Old Testament, many people
walked away from God, this nation needs a revival once again.
As many as 12 million people need food aid across southern Africa, after a lack of rain. This
may be hard to understand; in America we see a food diner on many corners. People line up to
buy and spend money on food everyday. Teenager's have school lunch breaks at Mc Donald's,
Wendy's or Taco Bell. Mom runs home from work, rushed, stops by the pizza shop, and sets that
pizza on the table the family ready to eat with big smiles on their faces. You will not see
that in the villages of Africa, it's almost hard for us to think that many families in Africa
go to bed with no food.
Out of sight is out of mind…we are not faced with those images in America. My eye would catch
a glance of a young three or five year old boy or girl, with their little tummies looking as if
it would explode, belly buttons protruding, as a sign of malnutrition, it was a sad sight.
AIDS is a pandemic, especially in Malawi. Some wives refuse to have an AIDS test after their
husband dies from AIDS otherwise they will lose hope. Others become angry and take no caution
passing the AIDS virus before they die. Superstitions and the lies from the witch doctors only
make the problem worse. The witch doctors tell men infected with AIDS to take a young virgin
girl of 12 or 13 and sleep with her, and then they will be healed. This demonic witchcraft has
not only spread the disease to thousands, but also the violation of forced rape has demoralized
another generation of young African girls. What is the hope of Malawi?
The gospel of Jesus Christ! At A Touch From Above, we are planning to build a Bible school
in Malawi, Central Africa. An old saying, "Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man
how to fish and he eats for a lifetime." People gathered, hundreds gave their hearts to Jesus,
I asked how many people had a bible? Only two people raised their hands. I asked, how many
can read? Again, only two people raised their hands. We can teach them to read the Bible and
apply the Word of God to their lives. The righteousness of Christ brings blessing, prosperity,
joy, freedom, wisdom and healing.
I brought a young man, only 25 years old named Isaac Gomani to San Diego, California, for one
year. He trained, in prayer every morning, Bible reading and learning all the basics of
Christianity. He's a powerful young man. Isaac was my interpreter, without him, many would
have not received Jesus as I ministered in Malawi. When he came to the USA for the first time,
he had to break many old traditions, superstitions and cultural barriers to renew his mind with
the Word of God.
By God’s grace and your help, our work will continue in Malawi as we prepare for mass crusades
and building of the Bible school, which will teach thousands of pastors free of charge so they
can go back to their village making impact for Christ. It is vital we train Malawian nationals
to train other Africans because it breaks the cultural barrier for them to see fellow Africans
rising in God's work. If we don't reach them and we don't train them, we can lose Africa.
Malawi has a unique need; they are one of the third poorest countries in Africa because of
drought and flooding. They also have an epidemic of malaria. Very few missionaries,
preachers or organizations go to Malawi. There is no fame or fortune to be won there, they
need our help! (I Thank God for those who do go!)
The Bible says, the Lord will use the foolish things to shame the wise. We can turn this
nation around and reach all Africa. If you would like help build the Bible College, please
give right now! One man or woman to be taken care of at the Bible school and have training for
six months, the cost is only $250 per person. This includes room and board, food, clothing,
books and classes. One person can change a whole village. I'm asking you, no, I'm begging
you, please consider sponsoring a man or woman of God. Or if you would like to help build the
school, it will cost us about $250,000 to construct the school, 10,000 square feet. We will
train 1000 men and women of God; together we can change a nation! Please help today…! Give

In Malawi, Wizaki Joseph, 47, buried his 21-year-old daughter Serena, a divorced mother of
two. She had gradually succumbed to hunger despite the watery porridge her family begged and
borrowed from neighbors in the village of Fombe, in the district of Chikwawa. Wizaki and his
wife Esnat now look after their two young grandchildren aged five and seven.
No nutrition
Wizaki is worried: "I am old and my legs do not work well, so I cannot find work in other villages. My family is relying on relatives to provide us with porridge. "I do not know what will happen to my family because if the rains do not come then we will just die." When the maize runs out, villagers are driven to eat wild fruits to survive, like this mfula. It is a bitter-tasting nut-like fruit and contains virtually no nutrition.
Prepared
This rainy season has been better and has brought some relief to the region. But the underlying causes remain, such as chronic poverty, weakened agriculture and health sectors due to widespread HIV/Aids, political inertia and inappropriate agricultural and economic policies. Current rains will not produce crops until April. Still, millions of subsistence farmers prepared the parched soil and planted in the hope of a harvest in three months' time.
Vulnerable
Among the first to suffer from the food shortages are the vulnerable, widows, orphans, those who are sick or HIV-positive. Marina Kefasi, 29, and 16-month-old Mariana both have tuberculosis. "We did not harvest last year," says Marina. "We eat water lilies and rely on my husband to travel to Mozambique to find work. I received drugs from the hospital and feel a little better, but am weak from the lack of food. "There is no milk in my breasts and Mariana cries all the time."
Partner organisations, have been carrying out food distributions for several months, like this one in Malawi's Machinga district. One Malawian aid worker captures the sentiment of many affected by the crisis when he says: "As Malawians we want to be self-sufficient and not have to rely on outside help. "But it is one of the poorest countries in the world and at the moment it is important to keep people alive."
One bowl a day
In Nedi village in southern Malawi the children who suffered badly in the last food crisis three years ago, are now eating one bowl of porridge a day. It is all thanks to a church-initiated scheme which sees villagers putting their maize into a central 'pot'. It means that the children get one meal a day, even if the adults don't and go hungry instead.
Solution
Amidst the hunger in southern Malawi stands a glimpse of one of the solutions to lifting the country out of its relentless cycle of drought and famine. The village community of Ling'awa has come together to pump water from the nearby Shire river. The precious water is moved onto a maize field that was donated to benefit the most vulnerable.
