Dr. Luauna Stines, President and Founder
I was raised in a home where there was a lot of hurt, confusion, and rejection. Born in the state of Colorado in a little country town called Rocky Ford, Colorado. As I got older, I used to tease and say when you are driving past my town on the freeway, if you are getting close do not wink (it's like "Swink"), you'll miss it.
Raised in Ordway, Colorado Springs and Pueblo, and a few years in Denver. My father whom I never knew was Richard Frank Tafoya. I think I saw him perhaps three times in my life, but I was so young that I do not remember much about him.
It's funny; I do look like him in a way. Yet a stranger, if he passed me on the street I do not know if I would be able to say, "I know you."
Growing up, my mother was married about seven or eight times. I do not remember the exact number of marriages: I only know it was enough. We had stepfather after stepfather. My mother was young and had a hard time raising a family of four girls, so she placed my sister and me in an orphanage.
From that point, my life was like a top spinning out of control. I was in and out of orphanages and foster homes, and I would run away from home only to end up in a detention center. Filled with hate, and hating who I was, I was like a time bomb ready to explode. By the time I was thirteen I was locked up. I fought all the time, in school and out. I had no control of my temper. I realize now without Jesus, I might have been dead today. I am very grateful for His mercy.
If God can change me, He can help,
and will change anyone.
When my husband died, I was two months pregnant and already had a little boy two years old. I found myself alone and angry. I really didn't know what I was going to do? I was looking for love, yet never finding it. With out the Lord in your life, you are always searching for something or someone, to fill the void. But only Jesus can fill that void.
I do not blame my mother for all that happened. I love her very dearly. She went on to be with the Lord on November 9, 1999. Before she died, I had the wonderful opportunity to share Jesus with my mother; she gave her heart to the Lord! …Smile….I remember that day so well! Our TV program was going into Colorado, Springs Colorado for the first time. I remember laughing with her on the phone two days before, telling her to bring all the people she knew into her room and tell them, "This is my daughter, the wild woman preacher!" But my mother died that morning, the day our program was going to air.
It is miracles of God's grace; I am a single mom, a minister of the gospel. I preach in almost 8 million homes, and I continue to pray for the Lord to open more doors our goal is to preach by satellite in time to 55 million homes. Both my children love the Lord with all their hearts. I am so proud of them! They love the Lord and the ministry.
