A Touch From Above Ministries

What About Divorce?
The Lord created marriage, a wonderful bond and a powerful relationship between one man and one woman, what God has put together let no man put asunder, a beautiful plan for the family.

Unfortunately, in this time when divorce is on the rise, we have to stop and think, many times the Lord has not been the one to put some marriages together.  Therefore it has caused divorce to be rampant in our society. Also for many reasons; the value of marriage is under attack by the forces of darkness. The purpose of this page is not to promote divorce. Our ministry clings to the word of God and stands upon the importance of the marriage relationship between one man and one woman.

However, a Christian man or woman who loves the Lord sometimes is faced with the terrible decision of divorce, what should they do? The apostle Paul said the judgment of divorce should be on a case-by-case basis, which is very logical because every situation is different and very personal. No one really knows what is going on in a marriage except a husband and wife.

Jesus only addressed divorce when it was a subject the Pharisees were using to test him. Jesus did not give an itemized list of scenarios for divorce, some divorces cannot be prevented.  In these cases when one continues on in the Lord, Jesus never prohibited divorced people from being in the ministry. There is not one scripture in the Bible prohibiting divorced people from ministry.

Some will quote the scripture in Malachi 2:16, "I hate divorce, says the Lord." Yes, this statement is direct and clear, please read the entire scripture in context. God hates what leads up to the divorce. The religion and law, which evolved for the Jews, went beyond God's word or God's law. The Jewish men treated their wives as property, as cattle or sheep. When they wanted to marry another, they would give a certificate of divorce to their wife. God did not intend for this to happen when he created Adam and Eve.

Sometimes marriages do not work out; divorce is a very difficult situation. Should that be the end of a Christian's relationship with God? No! Should that be the end of ministry? No! God is a God of grace and His mercies are new every day!

Verse of The Day

“I will love thee, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.” (Psalm 18:1-2)
