A Touch From Above Ministries

Mission America - Day 1
Dateline May 25, 2009. I have traveled around the world and of course, into Africa where you automatically pray and trust God for every single thing, but now we are missionaries to America. Everyday of our Mission, I have seen God perform miracles!

We left Ramona, California (San Diego County) by faith with a Great Mission, truck and trailer, five single women, and $1,000. I was gripping my steering wheel with white knuckles, trying to get used to hauling a 12 foot long trailer behind me. Remember, I have the name, “JESUS CHRIST,” on the side of the trailer; so I’m not trying to look like a “spaz” holding on for dear life. Finally, after a hundred and some miles I took a deep breath, relaxed and realized I just had a workout.

Our first plan was to go to Atlanta, but I forgot the night before, I told the Lord, “I don’t want my way, I want your will. You lead us!” Heading in the direction towards Atlanta and after three hours of driving, our second driver in the vehicle behind us, Rhonda, was feeling a little tired. She called on the walkie-talkie and said, “I’m really getting tired, need to switch drivers.” Looking for a sign for a rest stop, I realized we were in the sand dunes and it was over 110 degrees. Finally, a rest stop! Pulling in cautiously, with my big trailer behind me, as I turned the corner to go in to park, I heard a terrible sound, ever popped a big balloon? I looked through the rear view mirror, thinking I ran over something, lo and behold, what do my eyes behold? One of our brand new tires had blown up and looked as if it had been through WWII. Now remember, I just drove off the trailer lot with this brand new $6,000 trailer thinking I would be ok, no need to worry about tires.

Jumping out of the vehicle and realizing we were in the middle of the desert and I remember I was waiting for the next town to buy a spare, (Well, Mr. George, I should have listened to you before I left.) Being the calm leader, trying hard not to panic, both hands went straight in the air, “Jesus, I need help!” Five single women, no jack and no spare, just as I finished praying, into the rest area drove a beautiful red truck, with a nice trailer, just like ours. The only thing different with theirs, they had a spare, I could see it, it was in plain visual sight. I waved them down frantically and they pulled over, I said, “Excuse me sir, would you happen to have an extra spare?” Who’s going to carry an EXTRA spare? He said, “Nope, just the one we have.” I said, “Sir, we’re a team of missionaries to America, it’s Memorial Day and we’re stuck in the desert, I don’t know how far the next town is, but if you would please consider letting us use your spare and follow us into the next town to a gas station, I‘ll give you back your spare.” His wife, looked panicked, and told her husband, “What about us?” I said, “Ma’am, you can follow us, I don’t want to keep your spare, I just know if we don’t get to the next town we are going to be stuck in this desert.” The husband very quietly said something to her, and I moved back because I could tell they were having one of those husband-wife conversations. I prayed, “Lord, please put it in their heart, we need a miracle!”

Not wanting to give him too much time, I walked up to the window and asked, “Well, sir, do you know how far the next town is?” He said, “Twenty miles.” I said, “Sir, it’s a holiday and this is not coincidence that you drive in and your trailer spare tire, is the exact tire that fits our trailer and the only tire that can fit our trailer.” Then he said another little whisper to his wife and within seconds, he jumped out of his truck, reached for his jack, pulled his spare off and fixed our tire. In the meantime, I had Beverly calling around, our detective (and secretary), hunting for a place where we could buy a new tire and have this one fixed so we would not waste time. Thank God for Christian contacts and friends. A faithful Christian lady, Ms. Wanda, who we knew, Beverly remembered her son-in-law lived near this location. Ms. Wanda called him immediately and he gave us all locations open and ready to fix the tire in the next town. By this time, the guy had finished putting his spare on our trailer and he said, “Where are we headed?” We told him the name of the store and he said, here give me the address, I have a GPS, follow me and I’ll lead you right in. Within minutes, we were back on the road, following another truck and a trailer being chauffeured in by a couple who were in the military working in Intelligence, I could tell, because they wasted no time, they were men and women of action!

Pulling into the tire place to get our tire fixed, gave us time to witness, to share God’s love with this wonderful couple who came like angel wings, only to discover, this beautiful woman was raised with an incredible mother and father, who were missionaries to South America. She was away from God, backslidden and her husband was just searching for God. Our meeting was God ordained; I shared how much God loved her. You could see she was almost in tears, the young ladies’ parents must have been praying for years for the return of their daughter to the Lord. Her husband was so open; I was able to show him how to come to Christ.

Realizing we needed to buy a spare, right next door, was Lowe’s, we purchased a spare, drove out of the parking lot with our new tire and lost four hours (did we really lose them?). Heading on the road again to get to our campground for the night, going through the winding roads, again I found myself gripping the steering wheel. Maybe after a week or so, I won’t be gripping the steering wheel so tight. Time was getting late and I knew that our campground was in an area that would be hard to find in the dark, we went directly there. We found the camp site, squeezed into our little parking area, got our keys. Now getting dark, we unloaded and prepared everything for the night, Rhonda claimed the top bunk, Jill claimed the bottom bunk, Kaweah and I claimed the queen bed, and Beverly stood there with her gear in hand saying, “Guess what, I claim the floor!” Seeing how there was no other bed; five single women in one little 12’ x 12’ KOA Kampground Kabin. Did I forget to tell you our four little missionary dogs are with us, too? They claimed everybody’s bed!

Setting up our beds and finally getting a chance to catch our breath, we went outside looked at the campfire and said, “Alright, let’s have dinner. Who packed the food?” We all looked at each other and discovered, we are fasting for the night. We forgot the food. I remembered I had a little container of carrots so we had a carrot and some water and thanked God for the wonderful gentleman and his wife, Tom and Julie, who came to rescue us that day.

Oh, how could I forget, during our first day adventure, a precious Indian woman named, Maxine gave her heart to the Lord, Boris at the first gas station, Daniel and his beautiful wife and sister-in-law at the rest stop where our tire blew out, Gusto a customer at the tire store; and Mr. Dwayne and Jeri outside of McDonald’s near the last gas station of the day. Not including all the other witnessing we did during the day; at every stop people ask us, “What are you doing,” as they see the trailer? “What is Mission America?”
